Ginkgo: G. biloba

Ginkgo has a complex and unique chemistry – a virtual storehouse of biologically active compounds. Both the seeds and the leaves have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, being mentioned in a 1436 pharmaceutical / Chinese herbal publication. The leaves, traditionally used for ‘benefiting the brain’, also have an astringent action on the lungs and relieve symptoms of asthma and cough. Today Ginkgo leaf extracts are used for a wide variety of conditions including poor circulation, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), heart and eye disease, and memory loss. Ginkgo protects blood vessels, improves circulation and is a powerful antioxidant. Ginkgo is one of the best selling herbal medicines in France and Germany where it is taken daily by millions of people from middle age onward to maintain and improve cerebral circulation and memory and to reduce the possibility of stroke. Ginkgo’s antiallergenic and anti-inflammatory actions make it a particularly useful remedy for the treatment of asthma. The total extract from Ginkgo is active and single isolated components do not provide the activity of the total extract. The synergy of the active constituents is active, rather than a single biologically active constituent.

Cautions/Contraindications:
• Consult your health practitioner if you are taking anti-coagulants or are suffering from a blood clotting disorder
• Do not take if pregnant or breast feeding
